Sienna’s Steps Night of Laughter 2013

On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, Smith-Magenis Research Foundation (SMSRF) hosted our first “Laugh It Up” fundraising event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Improv Comedy Club in Hollywood, FL.  With more than 250 people in attendance, the event raised over $25,000.

The evening featured famed comedian Flip Schultz who has performed at many “A” comedy rooms including The Capital City Comedy Clup, The Comedy Corner, The Funny Bone and many more.  He has also been featured on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and Last Comic Standing 7 as “Skippy Greene”.  Sponsors who contributed to the event’s success included All-Safe Home Watch Services, International Finishes, Longman Electric, Priority Lending, Active Camera Systems, Dr. Jeffrey Marks, Thomas J. Longman, P.A. and Alexia Zain of Empire Title Services.

The evening ended with a much anticipated raffle of exciting donations such as lower level Miami Heat game tickets, skybox tickets to a UM game including parking, food and drinks, Legoland Theme Park admission tickets, professional college counseling services and many more.  “We are absolutely humbled and so grateful to all of you for this incredible support,” Missy Longman, co-founder of the SMS Research Foundation conveyed to the crowd at the event.  “Every dime raised at tonight’s event will go to directly fund research for SMS.  Know that you are making an impact on the lives of children and families diagnosed with this syndrome,” Longman said.  We set a goal to raise $20,000 and we exceeded our expectations.
